Welcome in the name of Jesus Christ to Holy Cross Lutheran Church! Know that you are always welcome here and we hope that you join us soon!
The congregation of Holy Cross was founded on May 11, 1867 by a small group of German Lutherans that resided around Ste. Genevieve. The following year in 1868, the brick church was built and is still in use today. While the initial project to build the building only cost $3000.00 at the time, it was a huge endeavor for the small amount of people at the time. In fact, many Roman Catholic friends stepped forward to give financial help to build the church. During the week, the newfound congregation used the sanctuary as a elementary school and the antique teacher's desk remains in the narthex and is still in use to this day. In 2017, Holy Cross will be celebrating 150 years as a congregation. We have been blessed by God to reside and serve this community here in Ste. Genevieve. From humble beginnings to the present the congregation here at Holy Cross remains a people richly blessed by the Lord, rejoicing in His Grace and mercy and looking forward to Christ's final return. You are welcome to come and join our congregational family, as our Lord God blesses us through His Holy Word and Sacraments. Come as all of us together are "Transformed in Christ to Share the Hope of Eternal Life." Worship Service: 9:00am Bible Class and Fellowship follow Service.

On Saturday, March 30, 2019, three from Holy Cross took part in the "25 Lutherans Who Cook" at Immanuel in Festus. Two came home with winning dishes. Christa Reiter won in the dessert division with her Christmas cake baked in a can. Stacy Bell was also a winner with her taco soup. Bonnie Zerwig gave it her best with beef jerky. Congrats to the winners!!! Money raised will support the youth going to the National Youth Gathering in Minnesota this summer. Molly Bell will be going from Holy Cross. It was a very good evening--tasting new dishes, meeting new friends, and seeing some old friends, too!! Good to see Pastor Kirk and Ruth.

Holy Cross is hosting a special prayer service tomorrow (Tuesday) March 19 at 7:00pm focusing on addiction. While not everyone has struggled with addiction, most (if not all of us) know at least one family member or friend who does, and all of us have been affected by our sins and this fallen world. Come and join us for a time of listening, singing, and praying as we look to God’s promises for us in Jesus Christ!
Join us this evening for our first midweek Lenten meal and service. Meal at 5:30, Worship Service at 6:30. Hope to see you there!

While the season of Lent is often known for giving something up, consider adding a time of devotion and prayer! The Lent Project, compiled by Biola University, provides uniquely thoughtful daily devotions that include special artwork, music, and poetry along with a passage of Scripture and devotional reflection. God bless you during this season as we follow our Savior to the cross and empty tomb! http://ccca.biola.edu/lent/2019/#

Hello Holy Cross Family! As I begin my second year at Holy Cross, one of the things I want to do is offer devotions on our Facebook page. Sometimes these devotions will be daily, sometimes every few days. It is my prayer these devotional thoughts are a blessing to you as you both rest in the love God has for you in Jesus (Matthew 11:28-29) and encourage you as you live out your Christian faith in your daily lives. Feel free to share these posts on your page as an encouragement to your friends and family as well! God bless you this week. Holy Cross Devotion- 8/6/18 In the backyard at the parsonage, we have two beautiful trees, a pecan and a maple. These trees provide wonderful shade especially in these months of summer heat. However, these trees also drop tons of sticks on the lawn and I occasionally pick them up to put in our fire pit, especially before I mow. The other day, Sam and I were outside and I saw there were a bunch of sticks that needed to be picked up. Sam loves to shoot hoops, throw golf balls in a garden bucket, and put his blocks back in their bin. So…I showed Sam the sticks, pointed to the fire pit and put one in. It didn't take him long to catch on. For the next 20 min or so, my 17 month old had "fun" picking up sticks and putting them in the fire pit, helping out his dad (see picture and video below). While it was a simple moment, it was a touching moment for me as a father to see my son "work" with me. Martin Luther reflected on vocation (the various roles, tasks, and work we have to do) and called them "masks of God." It is through these masks that God works to love and serve our neighbor. While this is a nice reflection (and very true!), sometimes it is difficult for us to see the purpose or joy behind our daily lives and the work we do. Often, we join Solomon in Ecclesiastes, asking "What gain has the worker from his toil?" (Ecclesiastes 3:9) It can often feel like there isn't any gain, yet we are not able to see the big picture. Solomon continues, "I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; 13 also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil-this is God's gift to man (Ecclesiastes 3:10-13)." God is at work in you! He is making beautiful the work of your hands, whether you are working at Mississippi Lime or Domino's, raising children or raising a harvest. God also gives you the opportunity to enjoy your work and he alone gives you joy to do so. "These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full" (John 15:11). God bless you this week with the gift of joy! The joy that is found through Jesus life, death and resurrection, in sins forgiven and eternal life received! And joy that is found in daily life, even picking up sticks.
We found Randy Ruzicka and Linda Brumfield Ruzicka out dancing to their wedding song!
